Conceptual appropriation artist Richard Prince was kicked off Instagram this year for posting a naked pic of Brooke Shields in Pretty Baby and then reinstated. Page Six says he has been showing, and selling, his latest, Instagram-inspired work at the Madison Avenue branch of Gagosian Gallery. His 48 X 56″ inkjet prints from celebrities Instagram feeds — with his comments underneath that are sometimes just emojis — have been on display just for VIPs in a private viewing area. Supposedly the works are pics of Pam Anderson and Kate Moss, among others and selling for up to $100,000. No exhibit has been announced, so far. It seems unlikely that famous folks would file a lawsuit but if they do, it certainly wouldn’t be the first time. Prince’s career is based on appropriating the work of others.
Is this pic from Kate Moss’s Instagram feed one of the images artist Richard Prince is selling as his own work?
